  • Apr 2012: Dr. Jungsik Lee, Visiting Research Scholar (2004-2006) and Collaborator passed away unexpectedly at Kunsan, South Korea.


  • Apr 27, 2012: Three B.S. capstone projects (N. Day and L. Hormaza, Acoustic Signal Identification and Direction Finding, J. O’Brien, 915 MHz Digital Transmitter/Receiver; and J. Foust, Large Scale Optimization of Open Baffle Dipole Loudspeakers) were mentored.


  • Mar 19, 2012: Rishiraj Mukherjee defended his M.S. Thesis Speaker Recognition Using Shifted MFCC.


  • Feb 6, 2012: Organized MOU general agreement signing between USF and Kangnam University, South Korea


  • Jan 16-18, 2012: Dr. Sankar presented invited lectures on the Integrated Wireless Social Sensor Networks at the Kunsan National University and Korea University, South Korea.


  • Jan 2012: Dr. Young-chul Kim, Associate Professor at Kunsan National University, South Korea joined the iCONS research group as a visiting research faculty.


  • Jun 4-11, 2011: Dr. Sankar visited several South Korean universities to discuss cooperative activities and held the 2nd US-Korea Joint International Workshop. He presented invited lectures at Chonbuk National University, Kunsan National University, Kyung Hee Univesrity, and Kangnam University, South Korea.


  • Mar 21, 2011: Prasad Vaizurs defended his M.S. Thesis Atrial Fibrillation Signal Analysis.


  • Feb 21, 2011: Murad Khalid defended his Ph.D. Dissertation Performance Enhancement Using Cross Layer Approaches in Wireless Ad Hoc Networks.


  • Jan 2011: Dr. Seung-ho Cho, Professor at Kangnam University, South Korea joined the iCONS research group as a visiting research faculty.


  • Jan 2011: Drs. Ju-phil Cho and Young-seok Lee, Associate Professors at Kunsan National University, South Korea joined the iCONS research group as visiting researchers.


  • Sep 21, 2010: Kun Li defended his Ph.D. Dissertation Advanced Signal Processing Techniques for Single Trial Electroencephalography Signal Classification for Brain Computer Interface Applications.


  • Aug 2010: Dr. Sankar was elected to represent College of Engineering in the USF Faculty Senate for a 3-year term.


  • Aug 2010: Rishiraj Mukherjee and Viswanath Ramabhotla joined iCONs group; Received the Provost Fellowships for new Ph.D. recruits. Sylwester Sobolewski joined Ph.D. program as part-time student.


  • Jun 21-26, 2010: Dr. Sankar visited several South Korean universities and held planning meetings. He presented invited lectures at Chonbuk National University, Kunsan National University, and Kangnam University, South Korea.


  • May 2010: Vanitha Narayan Raju joined iCONS group as Ph.D. student.

  • Apr 21-23, 2010: Dr. Sankar was the Executive Program Chair and Organizer of the The Ninth Annual Wireless Telecommunications Symposium (WTS 2010) held at Embassy Suites, USF/Busch Gardens, Tampa, FL, USA.

  • Sep 1, 2009: Dr. Xuan Hung Le joined the iCONS group as a Post-Doc to conduct research on Secure Wireless Sensor Networks for Healthcare Applications.

  • July 16-19, 2009: Dr. Sankar was (Session Co-Chair) for US-Korea Conference (UKC) 2009 on Science, Technology, and Entrepreneurship, Raleigh, NC.

  • June 11, 2009: Dr. Sankar was Organizer and Co-Chair, First US-Korea Joint International Workshop on “Global Wireless Sensor Networks” (GWSN 2009), sponsored by NSF and KOSEF (Korea Science and Engineering Foundation) and other local Government enterprises and industries, Jeonju, South Korea http://www.gwsn2009.org.

  • December 2008: Dr. Sankar was an External Reviewer of Ph.D. Dissertation for Alok Aggrawal on "Soft Handoff and Capacity of CDMA Communication Networks", Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, India, (major professors: Drs. Mohan Lal, Sunita Devi, and Rajendra Prasad).

  • December 15, 2008: Dr. Sankar presented an invited lecture on the " The Next Frontier in Wireless Networks: Cross Layer Design and Game Theoretic Framewor", Kunsan National University, Kunsan, South Korea.

  • December 15, 2008: Dr. Sankar presented an invited lecture on the "Directional Communication Performance in Wireless Adhoc Networks" , Kunsan National University, Kunsan, South Korea.

  • March 11, 2008: Dr. Sankar presented an invited lecture on the "Advances in Biometric Technologies - Robust Speaker Recognition Systems" at Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST), Nomi, Ishikawa, Japan. He held collaborative research discussions with the Center for Information Science (Prof. Y. Inoguchi).

  • Sep 1-9, 2007: Dr. Sankar presented a series of invited lectures at several universities in South Korea including Kunsan National University, Wonkwang University, and Chonbuk National University. He also presented a special invited seminar for the Society of Mobile Technology of South Korea and was an invited keynote speaker at the ISIS 2007. During this visit he held meetings with several key university administrators including the President (Dr. H. Y. Lee), Vice-President of Planning Affairs (Dr. T. S. Park), and the Dean of Engineering (Dr. E. G. Na) of Kunsan National University to explore opportunities for mutual collaboration on research and educational activities.

  • July 18, 2007: Dr. Sankar presented an invited lecture on the "Energy Efficient Routing for Ad Hoc and Sensor Networks" at Amrita University, Coimbatore, India. He toured the university and met with the President of the University and department heads to discuss future collaboration.

     

  • June 21, 2007: Dr. Sankar presented an invited seminar "Wireless Revolution: It's for real but is it any good" at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M), India.

     

  • Mar 18, 2007: Srikanth Mangayyagari presented 3 papers at the IEEE SoutheastCon at Richmond, VA and chaired a session on behalf of Dr. Sankar.

     

  • Feb, 2007: Dr. Inho Ra, Professor at Kunsan National University, South Korea joined the iCONS research group as a visiting research faculty.

He toured the university and met with the Chairman of the Bannari Amman Group, Principal, and the Chairs of the Departments to discuss about hosting international conference in India and future collaboration between the universities.

     

  • June 3, 2005: Kelvin Rojas presented “Distributed Source Coding for Sensor Networks” and Nick Sapankevych presented “Linear and Nonlinear Prediction Techniques: Application to Financial Forecasting” for their Ph.D. qualifier exam.

     

  • May 20, 2005: Dr. Sankar presented invited lecture on “Cutting Edge Research in Wireless Communication Networking and Signal Processing” including Biometric Technology Research and Improving Ad Hoc Network Performance Using Cross Layer Processing" at Kunsan National University, Gunsan, South Korea. He toured the university and met with the President Dr. Haejung Lim to discuss about future collaboration between the two universities.

     

  • May 16-19, 2005: Dr. Sankar attended ICC 2005 at Seoul, South Korea. He presented a paper on “Improving Ad Hoc Network Performance Using Cross Layer Information Processing” and chaired a session: Power Aware Techniques in Sensor Networks II.
